Holbeck Cemetery invites photographers on Saturday June 9th at 1pm , as part of Beeston Festival &
www.lookinggoodleeds.org/holbeck-beeston, to get snapping in the cemetery.
Eve & Ken Tidswell of the Friends of Holbeck Cemetery will be on site to help with any information that anyone needs to know. Please feel free to ask us questions etc and we will do our best to help. We do have some archives dating back to 1857 and if it is a fine day we will be bringing them with us- plus leaflets & booklets telling something about the history of the cemetery and its memorials.
We will also tell you a bit about what we are trying to do in this beautiful space.
There will also be a chance to buy Eve Tidswell’s book with all proceeds going towards the Friends of Holbeck Cemetery
Focus on Holbeck in 1881 . Priced at £9.95 Foreword by Hilary Benn .
It looks back at early Holbeck and in particular at the census of 1881 , showing the changes that have occurred in this area since then. We no longer have mustard -makers, flax-mill overlookers, heckle-pin makers, cloth-finishers & dealers in spices etc. Check out the inventors who started here in Holbeck , all of which were integral to the growth of Leeds industries. See which trades have survived to this day .
